Question by Lynn: Should I put weight on my knee?
I injured my R knee 3 weeks ago (strained the MCL and damaged the suprapattelar bursa). I’ve been on crutches since. I’m starting to be able to take a few limping steps and have been doing so around the house, but I’m not sure if I should be (it’s still moderately painful to do it – and my knee swells about 10 minutes later when I take more than a couple steps).

Will putting weight on it help strengthen my knee, or just lengthen the healing process?

No, do not put weight on it yet. The pain and the swelling you get are signs that your knee is not ready to have weight put on it. Do Not put any weight on it until told to by a Doctor!

Hi you might have a torn ligament in your knee and you might have to get therapy for that but I know to strenghten your knee you can sit on a chair hold your leg out and move it up and down. But I think you should see a doctor, if you don’t take care of it now you might need a knee operation later. Just talking from experience. Goodluck and yes put the weight on it while strenghtening.
